An AI agent is not a chatbot
An AI agent is not a chatbot. Many people hear AI and picture a chat window. You type a question, it types an answer, and that is it. Useful, but the work is still sitting on your desk.
So what is the difference?
An agent is a different thing. You do not ask it a question. You give it a job, and it goes and does the work.
So basically, in plain terms: a chatbot answers, an agent acts. Same underlying AI, pointed at your day in a completely different way.
What does that look like in a business?
Take customer email. A chatbot can tell you how to answer a customer. An agent reads the actual email, looks up the actual order, writes the reply in your voice, and sends it.
Take content. A chatbot can explain how to schedule a week of posts. An agent takes your ideas, writes the scripts, and lines the posts up for the week.
So basically a chatbot hands you words, and an agent hands you a finished task.
Why does this matter for you?
Because an answer does not give you time back. Work getting done gives you time back. If AI has felt like a clever toy so far, this is probably why. A chat window is a better search box. It still leaves every task on your plate. An agent is the part that takes the task off your plate.
Where does the human stay?
You do not disappear. You decide what is worth handing over, and you approve the result before it counts. The doing moves off your desk. The judgment stays on it. That is the whole model, and it is simpler than the hype makes it sound.
I build agents that run all parts of my online business. Check them out at pelleforsman.com.
