My AI checker started rejecting my own posts
My AI checker started rejecting my own posts this week. Posts I had written myself, in my own voice, kept getting knocked back. It is a small story with a lesson that is bigger than content, so here it is.
What is the checker?
Before anything I write goes out, a separate AI reads it and grades it. Not the AI that helped draft it, a different one, whose only job is to catch weak or dishonest posts before they reach anyone. I have written about it before. It is genuinely the thing I trust most in the whole setup, because it is what stops a bad post going out when nobody is watching.
So what went wrong?
This week it started failing my writing. Good posts, written the way I actually talk, came back rejected. For a second I assumed the posts were the problem and I needed to rewrite them.
They were not the problem. The checker was. It had been tuned to a stiffer, more corporate way of writing. So when I wrote plainly, the way I would explain something to a friend, the checker read that plainness as a mistake. It was grading my real voice against a standard that was not mine.
How did you fix it?
Not by changing how I write. I retuned the checker instead. I gave it my own posts as the standard, and told it clearly that plain and spoken is the target, not a flaw. After that it passed the good posts and still caught the genuinely weak ones. The judge, not the writer, was what needed fixing.
The lesson, and it is not about content
A checker calibrated to the wrong standard is worse than having no checker at all. It quietly blocks your best work and waves through the stuff that only looks correct. That is the trap with any AI judge: it feels objective, so you trust its verdict without asking whether it is measuring the right thing.
If you put an AI check anywhere in your business, on quality, on tone, on risk, the check itself has to be tuned to what good actually means for you. An untuned judge does not remove your judgment. It just hides a bad version of it behind a confident score.
